Computer Controlled Mirror
We took a flexible mirror, attached 15 computer-controlled motors, then wrote programs like "tall and short," "wiggle foot," and "suddenly studious" to drive the mirror. Visitors choose from these and other programs at a kiosk located in front of the mirror. They can freeze and hold the mirror still at any point to figure out how it creates its effects by a combination of convex and concave surfaces. Different parts of the mirror move at different speeds and this motion creates a greater effect than the sum of the stationary positions the mirror can assume. The exhibit is a great ice breaker when located at the entrance to an exhibition. Visitors laugh at themselves and are far more apt to take chances.
