musical floor
Visitors walk over 16 reflectors mounted on the floor, triggering a sound each time they break an infared beam. Visitors can select groups of sounds using a wall-mounted display. We paid particular attention to the choice of sounds; they are short pieces of classical and dance music, historical quotes, clips from movie soundtracks, animal calls, and cartoon sounds that work well when strung together in either the correct order or in unusual sequences. Some visitors enjoy finding the correct pathway to walk through the sensors while others like rearranging the sounds to suit their fancy.

The exhibit electronics are mounted to the ceiling where they are out of the way. Durable reflectors attach to the floor using wood or concrete screws. The control station is a small steel plaque that mounts nearby.
