Touching each object triggers an evocative sound. The sounds are selected by the black button in the back of each cell in the shadowbox. The sounds are short pieces of music, quotes, animal calls, or machinery noises. The exhibit shown here was oriented toward the history of invention in America and its objects and sounds were chosen accordingly. However, the approach would lend itself to other historical, cultural, and artistic topics. The exhibit is both a spur to the imagination and a creative tool for juxtaposing sounds, musical selections, and historic quotes. It has proven very successful with all ages, each of which gets something unique out of it.
