Creative Sustainability

Creative Machines has a longstanding commitment to sustainability. In 2006, we became the first private for-profit company in southern Arizona to install a sizable grid-tied PV array. The system has saved 56,126 pounds of greenhouse gases so far, and has powered much of the machinery that makes the creations on this website. In that same time, we’ve expanded our use of sunlight with additional skylights and reduced our cooling load by installing a movable shade structure.

Living up to our name, we’ve also found creative ways of being sustainable. In addition to making sculptures like Bike Church and Ballroom Luminoso out of recycled bike parts, we’ve donated our extra materials to nearby art schools for sculpture projects. We also make scrap materials available to local artists and makers. People have taken our would-be-trash and turned it into unique treasures such as musical instruments, art, and play equipment. We’ve included images of some recent projects below. #gallery-3 { margin: auto; } #gallery-3 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-3 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-3 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Our Creative Machines shop is located on the ancestral lands of the Tohono O'odham Nation. We are nestled in the heart of Tucson, Arizona, a vibrant, culture-rich city, both presently and historically. This land was home to some of the earliest people in North America, the Hohokam, and we honor and respectfully acknowledge the indigenous nations that have stewarded this land since time immemorial. Today, Arizona is home to 22 federally recognized tribes, with Tucson being home to the Tohono O’odham and the Pascua Yaqui Tribe.
