Broomcorn

Broomcorn is a site-specific suspended kinetic mobile named for the grass species that gives Broomfield, CO its name. The distinctive seeds of the broomcorn plant are evoked by handmade colored glass spheres held in lacy stainless steel settings. The stainless steel curls much like the fibers of the broomcorn plant. The colors of the glass were chosen from local wildflowers. The entire sculpture is meant to move in response to air currents. The stalks describe a graceful arc as the eye follows them from bottom to top.
