Installing ‘Chinook Arc’

We are currently in Calgary installing what is possibly the world’s largest acrylic sculpture, the immersive and interactive Chinook Arc by artists Joe O’Connell and Blessing Hancock.

Despite the cold weather, the installation is going well. We are ably assisted by a great crew from F&D Scene Changes. We worry more about ourselves than about Chinook Arc. The sculpture itself is well equipped for the cold. Acrylic panels are free to expand and contract as they float upon flexible bushings attached to the steel skeleton.

The City of Calgary filmed this short video as our trucks arrived:

Later, Joe did a short radio interview with the CBC, explaining the sculpture:

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Our Creative Machines shop is located on the ancestral lands of the Tohono O'odham Nation. We are nestled in the heart of Tucson, Arizona, a vibrant, culture-rich city, both presently and historically. This land was home to some of the earliest people in North America, the Hohokam, and we honor and respectfully acknowledge the indigenous nations that have stewarded this land since time immemorial. Today, Arizona is home to 22 federally recognized tribes, with Tucson being home to the Tohono O’odham and the Pascua Yaqui Tribe.
