A dynamic experience of light, movement, and human connection: our new immersive installation, Changing Room, traveled 10,000 miles to AfrikaBurn this week!

Suspended above a pathway, Changing Room is an open-air chamber of color and motion, designed as a threshold between moments. Wind animates its surface, sunlight paints its interior, and participants bring it fully to life through presence and play. The structure invites visitors to pause, shift perspective, and re-enter the world transformed - both individually and collectively.

The installation is composed of 761 individual scales that respond to both natural elements and human interaction. As people move around and within the piece, they can send waves through its surface, creating ripples of motion that continuously reshape the experience. Light filters through the structure, casting vibrant reflections onto those inside, turning participants themselves into part of the artwork.

Changing Room encourages exploration, spontaneity, and connection. Visitors are invited to walk through it, gather around it, photograph the shifting colors, and engage physically with the piece - whether by gently moving the structure or dancing within the luminous space it creates. At any given moment, multiple participants can interact with the installation, creating a shared, ever-evolving environment.

Set against the unique backdrop of AfrikaBurn, Changing Room became a living, breathing space - one that responds to the desert’s elements while amplifying the creativity and energy of its community.

We are grateful to bring this work to such a vibrant and expressive environment and enjoyed seeing how participants shaped and transformed the experience throughout the event.
