You Are Here Opens on Route 66

We are excited to share that You Are Here, a new sculptural landmark by Creative Machines, is now installed along historic Route 66 in Wellston, Oklahoma. Marking the geographic midpoint of Oklahoma’s nearly 400-mile stretch of the Mother Road.

Located along historic Route 66 in Wellston, Oklahoma, You Are Here is a 23-foot-tall sculptural landmark marking the geographic midpoint of Oklahoma’s nearly 400-mile stretch of the Mother Road. While Route 66 has long symbolized movement, migration, and the promise of possibility, this work instead centers on the importance of stopping - inviting visitors to pause and experience a place that might otherwise be passed by.

Created as both a landmark and an immersive experience, You Are Here transforms a familiar symbol into a moment of reflection and discovery. From a distance, the sculpture reads as a bold and instantly recognizable form. Up close, it reveals layered details and illuminated imagery that encourage exploration and a deeper connection to place.

Constructed from carbon steel pipe and square tubing, the structure features translucent polycarbonate panels embedded with glowing vignettes inspired by Route 66. Roadside attractions, sweeping landscapes, performers, and historic automobiles come together to capture the spirit of the “Mother Road” as both a journey and a shared cultural memory. A map integrated into the underside of the sculpture helps orient visitors along the route, reinforcing the work’s role as both marker and storyteller.

Throughout the day, sunlight transforms the translucent panels with shifting depth and color, while at night the sculpture becomes a glowing beacon visible from afar. Framed by its vivid red outline, You Are Here reimagines Wellston as more than a stop along the highway - it becomes a destination in its own right.
